Apps to help you save money at gas stations and grocery stores

Inflation and the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war mean that our dollar just doesn’t stretch as far as it once did.

“Russia’s violent invasion of Ukraine rocked the oil market, with crude reaching over $100 a barrel before returning to the mid-$90s,” AAA spokesman Skyler said Monday. McKinley, via email. “The rise in the world price of oil has led to higher prices at the pump in the United States, with the national average for a gallon of gasoline reaching $3.61, eight cents more than a year ago. week.”

In Colorado, the statewide average for a gallon of gasoline is $3.37, or 73 cents higher than this time last year.

“This is the highest average for this time of year since 2014,” McKinley added.

Ways to save:

GasBuddy.com Not only has an app that allows users to locate the cheapest fuel prices in your area, but now you can take advantage of the “Pay with GasBuddy” card.

“This free card saves you up to 25 cents per gallon,” the website says.

How it works?

First, users need to register for the card. It’s free and no credit check is required, according to the website.

“All you have to do is swipe the card at the pump,” the website explains. “Within 1-3 business days, the reduced purchase amount will be taken directly from your linked checking account, meaning the savings will stay directly in your account.”

Get backwards:

Get upside down is another app to help shoppers save money on gas, groceries, and restaurants.

The app advertises savings at popular gas chains such as Circle K, Chevron, Shell, Exxon and Philips 66.

According to the website, all the customer has to do is get a copy of a sales/purchase receipt and upload it to the app. After successfully uploading the receipt, you’ll receive “cash back” in your account—similar to cash back credit cards that offer rewards to shoppers.

The money can then be deposited directly into your checking account or linked to an online PayPal account.

Local Grocery Savings:

King Soopers and Safeway already have apps for mobile phones that allow users to instantly clip “digital” coupons. These savings are tied to your customer phone number and can be used with other printed coupons or weekly flyer advertisements.
