MTN has announced that it now offers a monthly payment option on its SIM-only plans.
The payment option requires no long-term contract lock-ins, credit checks or complicated paperwork, the operator said.
“MTN Month-to-Month is available for anyone who does not want to be tied to a contract or who is unable to secure a long-term contract due to not meeting minimum requirements,” the operator said.
Jacqui O’Sullivan, executive director of corporate affairs at MTN, said the product was launched in response to customer needs for greater flexibility.
“We have developed this offering with freelancers, contractors, independent contractors and temporary part-time workers, who live from contract to contract, and we hope this can help alleviate some of the pressure felt by so many people. right now, ”O says Sullivan.
How the month by month works
The monthly option is available from September 1.
New or existing MTN customers will be able to choose this payment when subscribing to SIM-only offers which are also offered on a 24-month contractual basis.
They will be required to provide their name and South African ID, in addition to the debit order details, if they wish to pay on a monthly basis.
Long-term contracts typically offer data and airtime at lower prices than prepaid plans.
However, in the event that a customer is not satisfied with their package or a more attractive alternative is available, they are forced to pay a high cancellation fee to terminate the contract.
The contract request also requires the customer to undergo a credit check and provide supporting documents proving that they will be able to make payments.
On a monthly payment plan, the customer has the option to cancel their plan at any time and no credit check is required.
