A bankrupt letting agent was due to appear before a Crown Court judge accused of paying £25,000 in rent when she owed the tax authorities more than a quarter of a million pounds.
Madelaina Eftekhari, 56, allegedly ran a residential property rental business from 2012 to 2018 “with the intent to defraud her creditors”.
She is accused of securing nearly £25,000 in rent and was a trustee of the Hernes Close Residents’ Association between April 2014 and March 2016 while in undischarged bankruptcy.
The Insolvency Service, which brought 11 charges against her, said she did not disclose that she owed £270,000 in tax or that she may have used someone else’s HSBC bank account.
She allegedly failed to declare that she owned properties in St Bernards Road and Croft Road, Oxford, which brought in £2,500 a month.
Eftekhari is accused of fraudulently declaring in 2013 that her properties were managed by a Dubai-based company, KME Property Management.
She was due to appear at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday for a plea and case management hearing. His attorney attended virtually, via video link, in his absence.
Recorder Michael Roques approved a 10-week adjournment after his lawyers requested time to obtain mental health reports.
Eftekhari, of Hobson Road, Oxford, was released on bail to return to court on June 20.
